Frequently Asked Questions…
Project Bellatrix is a non-profit organization with a mission to support women who have experienced domestic, physical, and verbal abuse. The organization's primary goal is to empower survivors by providing them with a safe space to share their experiences, access essential support services, and become advocates for change.
Why was Project Bellatrix founded?
Project Bellatrix was founded to recognize the pervasive issue of abuse faced by women in society. The founders observed that many women are hesitant to speak about their experiences of abuse, particularly within school environments where finding a safe space to discuss such matters can be challenging. They also noted that various forms of mistreatment had been normalized, contributing to a culture that often perceives women as inferior. This normalization of abuse is a concern both within their own experiences and in different cultures.
Project Bellatrix aims to challenge this normalization of abuse and create a safe place where women can openly communicate their experiences and seek support.
Why did we choose the name Project Bellatrix?
The name "Project Bellatrix" was chosen deliberately. "Bellatrix" means "female warrior" in Latin, signifying the strength and resilience of women who have survived abuse. The term "Project" underscores the organization's mission to work towards a specific goal, requiring support.
Project Bellatrix firmly believes that all women who have survived abuse are warriors deserving of advocacy and support.
